About Iyengar Yoga

Developed by and named after Guruji B.K.S. Iyengar; Iyengar Yoga is a precise and methodical approach to the practice of yoga. It strongly emphasises on safety,support, alignment, and breath control during the Asana practice to bring harmony to the physical and the mental body of its practitioner. In Iyengar Yoga, props such as belts, blocks, blankets, bolsters, chairs, wall ropes etc. are often used to assist students to achieve proper alignment and to cater the practice to individual abilities. Iyengar Yoga is known for its attention to detail, and it is suitable for people of all ages and levels of fitness. Iyengar Yoga is not only a physical practice but also a path to self-awareness and self-realisation through the exploration of asanas (postures) and pranayama (breath control).
